// faq

Frequently asked.

Is it free?

Yes, today. Moderation, reaction roles, welcomes, birthdays, the Overwatch suite, and all the slash commands are free. AI features (talking to the bot in plain English instead of using slash commands) may eventually require a paid plan to cover Anthropic API costs. For now those are managed manually by the bot owner.

Why does it need all those permissions?

Each permission backs a specific feature: Kick / Ban / Timeout / Manage Messages for moderation, Manage Roles for /color and reaction roles, Manage Channels for the welcome flow, Send Messages in Threads for the destructive-action confirmation flow, and so on. The bot does not request Administrator. If you want to be conservative, revoke individual permissions and the bot will skip the features that need them.

How does the AI part work?

When you @-mention the bot, your message goes to Anthropic's Claude (Haiku for simple requests, escalating to Sonnet for complex ones). Claude picks the right tool and runs it. The LLM never decides permissions. Those are enforced at the tool layer, so it cannot perform an action your role does not allow. Destructive actions (kicks, bans, etc.) always require explicit confirmation in a thread.

What happens when it goes down?

The bot runs on an AWS Auto Scaling Group with a custom AMI and CodeDeploy. If the instance dies, a replacement boots in ~2–3 minutes and re-registers automatically. Status updates go to the support guild when there is anything operationally noteworthy.

How do I get help?

Join the GameServerBot support guild at https://discord.gg/FDPjEbfpW9 and post in the support channel. That is the canonical place for questions, bug reports, and feature requests.
